Warrington Way Ultra

Running The Warrington Way

Fancy a picturesque Cheshire ultra this winter?

The Warrington Way 40-mile ultramarathon will take place on 8 November, starting and finishing in the picturesque Cheshire village of Lymm. The challenging circular trail route takes runners on an anticlockwise journey around Warrington, passing through villages and landmarks including Warburton, Birchwood, Winwick, Penketh, Hatton and High Legh.

Organised by Lymm Runners, the race was inspired by the famous Round Rotherham 50 and is designed to give marathon runners a chance to step up to the ultramarathon challenge. With a growing community of ultrarunners in the North West, the Warrington Way has become a much-loved fixture for those seeking distance, camaraderie and adventure.

Predominantly off-road, the route features footpaths, farm tracks, canal towpaths and fields, with some stretches on country lanes and a number of major road crossings. Organisers say: "Along the way runners will encounter both the scenic Cheshire countryside and the area’s rich industrial heritage, crossing the Bridgewater Canal, Manchester Ship Canal, St Helens Canal and River Mersey, as well as several railway lines and motorways."

The event can be run solo, as a pair with each covering 20 miles, or as a four-person relay team with 10 miles each. Checkpoints at miles 10, 21 and 30 will be well stocked with refreshments, and all finishers will be rewarded with a medal, hot meal and the option of a technical t-shirt if ordered in advance.
