Seaside Miles And Club Spirit On The Wirral Coast
Pensby Runners continue to lead one of the North West’s most popular summer race series...
One of the North West’s most established and well loved race series returns this spring, as the Wirral Seaside Runs once again bring runners together along the Merseyside coastline.
Organised by Pensby Runners, the series consists of six monthly 5K races held from March through to August, with Race 2 scheduled for Wednesday 29 April.
Starting near the iconic Leasowe Lighthouse, the route follows the sea embankment before finishing at Harrison Drive, offering runners a flat and fast course that has become a reliable benchmark for fitness and performance.
Now firmly established as a fixture on the Merseyside running calendar, the series has been attracting runners for more than 30 years, with its simple format and welcoming atmosphere appealing to both experienced club athletes and those newer to the sport.
At the heart of the series are Pensby Runners, a community focused club that has played a central role in delivering these events year after year. Their commitment to creating inclusive, accessible racing opportunities has helped build a loyal following, with many runners returning each month to test themselves against the clock and the coastal conditions.
The structure of the series also adds an extra layer of motivation, with awards available for those who complete five of the six races, encouraging consistency across the summer months.
With evening start times and a scenic seaside setting, the races offer a perfect midweek challenge, whether runners are chasing personal bests or simply enjoying the social side of the sport.
As the 2026 series continues, the Wirral Seaside Runs remain a shining example of grassroots running done right, combining competitive racing with strong club spirit and a welcoming environment for all.
