Cruising To The Startline
Lakeland Trails return to Ullswater with cruise and costumes all part of the fun...
On 9 November runners will head to one of the most picturesque settings in the Lake District for the Ullswater 10K and 14K. Famous for its mix of stunning scenery, live entertainment and fancy dress, this year’s theme invites runners to don their best 'historical figures' outfits for an unforgettable day out.
The event begins in unique style with a 30-minute cruise aboard Ullswater Steamers’ Raven, included in every entry. Although the boats are sometimes unable to sail due to weather - leading to the long-standing joke among regulars of 'Will the boats sail?' Organisers have prepared two stunning contingency routes should the worse happen, both showcasing Ullswater’s eastern shoreline and the breathtaking views from Silver Crag.
Once on dry land, the 14K course offers an added challenge, with a tough climb up to Boredale Hause followed by a thrilling descent back into the Patterdale Valley. The 10K route provides equally beautiful terrain, mixing lakeside trails with sections of tarmac, making it suitable for newcomers and experienced trail runners alike.
The fun does not stop at the finish. Alongside race commentary, food and drink stalls and live performances from Boom Dang and Pete Lashley, children under 12 can take part in their own free race, running alongside Zeraffa the Giraffe and earning a finisher’s medal.
