Fancy Some Fell Running?
Two great fell running options for runners this autumn...
Now in its 57th year, Littleborough's Race to the Summit is back in 2024 with a date of 26 October. Organised by CraggRunner, this well established fell race involves a short four mile route with over 800ft of ascent, two pubs and a pint of beer!
Runners start at the Summit Inn and then have to run up to the White House pub located near Blackstone Edge, once there they must touch the pub wall, then turn around and run back to the Summit Inn for a well-earned pint. Organisers say: "This is a great starter for runners new to fell running and a fast course for the more experienced fell runner."
The time of year means that Halloween costumes are always encouraged and there are prizes for the best dressed. There are junior races too, so you can make it a great fun day out for all the family.
Moving further into the year and it is the turn of the Soyland Moor on 3 November. This is billed as a 'classic fellrace in the making' and is 13.5 miles long with 1300ft of ascent.
The race starts with a steep tarmac uphill from the Hinchcliffe Pub towards the delightful bogs of Sunderland Pasture, onwards to Stoodley Pike they will then head over the moor along the Pennine Way and over towards Great Manshead Hill before following the route back towards the Hinchliffe Arms. Organisers say: "Join us to visit the worst and best that Calderdale has to offer!"
Speaking about their ethos, they told us: "At Craggrunner we like to keep it simple. We just want to run and enjoy ourselves. So as it's simple, this reflects the cost of the races. Nothing fancy and over the top. Cheap and cheerfull!"
