Time for a Tour?
Do you fancy taking on the iconic Tour of Tameside this summer?
The iconic Tour of Tameside will return to the race calendar this summer. A 4-day festival of running that explores the best the area of Tameside has to offer, there is a race for everyone!
Organisers told us: "Launching on Thursday 13 June and finishing on Sunday 16 June, The Tour offers runners of all abilities an exhilarating four-day running challenge across a variety of stunning local routes, to discover the best local scenery, rural terrains and fells across the boroughs of Tameside, Oldham and Glossop.
"Completing all four challenges is a huge achievement for any runner and the euphoric feeling you will experience on that final day is unlike anything else. Whether you run a single race, or take on the mighty full Tour, you will be heavily congratulated by the community and awarded with a medal for each race completed. Those who complete the full tour will be awarded the coveted finisher’s t-shirt."
The series kicks off with the X-Trail 10K on 13 June. This 10K route takes in a variety of terrain with runners heading through two brilliant local country parks - Daisy Nook and Park Bridge Country Parks - both of which will provide a fun, but challenging test for all runners taking part.
Next up is the Hell on the Fell 6 Mile race on 14 June which is considered the most iconic run of the four. The route itself takes place on closed roads and enjoys the best of the local scenery. The route starts out fairly easily for the first mile with some challenging hills later in the run.
The Hero Half Marathon on 15 June will see runners embark on a 13.1 mile journey which includes running along the Longdendale Trail which is ideal for achieving a PB time, if your legs have survived the Fell.
Concluding the series is the Dr Ron Hyde 7 Mile Race which takes runners in and around the city of Hyde. The entire event is perfect for new and experienced runners alike, as the course follows roads and tarmac paths.
All stages of the Tour have been carefully chosen to be challenging but achievable by runners of all abilities and are the inspiration of marathon legend Dr Ron Hill MBE who created the original race series back in 1981.
