Third time lucky for Doddington Place Gardens 10K

Nice Work finally launches their brand new trail 10K, 5K and Canicross races with 1,206 legs in action!

It was third time lucky for Nice Work's inaugural Doddington Place Gardens 10K, 5K and Canicross races on Saturday (1 May) as the event was cancelled in 2020, then postponed from Valentine's Day, Sunday 14 February 2021, due to the ongoing Coronavirus pandemic.

Finally, 481 humans and 61 canines were able to stretch their combined 1,206 legs while taking in the exhilarating beauty of their surroundings at this private Edwardian Estate, home for the Oldfield family for more than a century (gardens pictured above).

As part of a detailed Covid-secure race plan, there were wave starts for each race distance, one in the morning and one in the afternoon, with the Canicross race sandwiched between them.

This was the first time the venue has hosted a running event, although the Estate has been featured in many films, TV shows, and media publications and has been shortlisted for the prestigious 2021 Historic House Garden of the Year Award. Nice Work organisers said: “We are particularly excited to showcase our stunning finish line – definitely not one to be missed – located on the long driveway to the gates of this stately home”.

Thanks to the miracle of chip timing the results were consolidated and the overall fastest men in the undulating two-lap 10K trail race were Fintan Kavanagh (Sittingbourne Striders, 36:06), Jack Bradley (Thanet RR, 40:05) and Scott Simpson (Sittingbourne Striders, 40:27).

The women's 10K was headed by W60 Jennifer Pincott (42:49), Steph Ede (45:06) and Sarah Hall (46:45. There were 317 finishers in 1:49:53.  The 5K winners were Tom Storer (Invicta East Kent, 18:32) and Imogen Amos (Tonbridge, 21:07) and there were 103 home in 1:29:19.

With a four-legged friend for company, the Canicross 10K leaders were M60 Dario Poloni (52:52) and W50 Emma Laidlaw (59:21) while the fur was flying in the 5K dash for Jethro Kimber (20:05) and Hayley Empett (22:54).
