Run anywhere this weekend to plant a tree
The Tree Run Virtual by One Running Movement will enable you to both support the Lewisham and Greenwich NHS Trust Charity and plant trees in Yorkshire. We explain how...
Ever thought of putting down some roots in Yorkshire? Well, now you can, while running your chosen distance between 5K and a full marathon anywhere by this Sunday 25 April.
By entering One Running Movement's virtual event The Tree Run you will have a tree planted in Yorkshire by Planet-U Energy in their woodland nature reserve, along with a biodegradable plaque featuring your name, or dedicated to a friend, relative, or loved one. Runners will also receive a wooden medal that is ethically and sustainably sourced.
In addition, One Running Movement, in collaboration with Planet-U Energy has gifted 100 places to Lewisham and Greenwich NHS Trust Charity to enable 100 hospital staff members and friends of the Trust to take part and raise money for the London hospital's own charity.
The charity makes a difference by funding projects and initiatives that enhance care and improve patient, visitor, and staff experience but fall outside of standard NHS provision. The money raised from The Tree Run will help fund staff wellbeing initiatives such as dedicated emotional support for frontline staff, particularly important during the Covid-19 pandemic.
The Tree Run is an honesty run and the distance can range from 5K to marathon in line with the individual’s personal health and wellbeing goals. A picture of the tree will be sent to each participant within 12 months of it being planted and the trees for Lewisham and Greenwich NHS Trust Charity will be planted together in the Planet-U Energy nature reserve woodland.
Jo Gennari, General Manager at Lewisham and Greenwich NHS Trust and founder of #TeamLGT said: “I am proud to say that we have got a team of 100 runners taking part in The Tree Run this April. A big thank you to One Running Movement for gifting 100 places that allow us to raise funds and to anyone else entering The Tree Run in aid of Lewisham and Greenwich NHS Trust. In addition to the benefits of running for our health, we love that a tree is not only planted but that we can dedicate that tree to a loved one. We have sadly lost a number of colleagues during the COVID-19 pandemic. We will be running in their memory and will dedicate our trees to them.”
