Kayleigh's Wee Stars Barra 10K Runners

A Hill Race With Real Heart

Take part in this north-east hill race and do your bit to help families facing the unimaginable...

What if I told you that you don't need to leave the mainland to take part in the Barra 10K... Would you be confused? Because I was when I saw the event listed on runABC Scotland's race listing! The 'Barra' that this event refers to though, is in fact a hill. A hill in Aberdeenshire to be exact.

The Kayleigh's Wee Stars Barra 10K is all set to take place on 28 May and is a popular and challenging multi-terrain trail over the Barra Hill with spectacular views across the north-east countryside. The atmosphere is welcoming and fun and has something for everyone. It's family friendly too, with Active Schools organising junior races taking place before the main event.

The start (and finish) is at Oldmeldrum Academy leading on to the fields at the foot of the Barra Hill which is where runners will experience the cross country section of the course. The climb to the summit of Barra Hill is about 1K, where participants will enjoy panoramic views of Aberdeenshire before heading onto the Bourtie Road for a fast, downhill second half road section as they wind back into Oldmeldrum.

New for 2022 is the introduction of age group categories where there will be prizes for 1st, 2nd, 3rd overall male/female, senior male/female, veteran male/female and superVeteran male/female. But rest assured that all runners are well taken care of regardless of prize-winning ability (or not) with a medal, buff and 'other bits and pieces' all waiting at the finish line.

The event is organised by, and to support, the Kayleigh's Wee Stars charity which exists to provide financial support for families where a child has a terminal illness. A spokesperson said: "Absolutely all of the money raised from this event’s entry fee, will be going directly to families where there is a child with a terminal diagnosis."
