Monuments, Munros and Fast Times
Spot the Wallace Monument and Munros to the north in this scenic, but fast 10K...
There's still time to be a part of this year's Thornhill 10K, scheduled for 5 May and, as ever, offering PB potential to all who enter, not to mention a spectacular course where participants can play spot the Wallace Monument!
The Thornhill 10K will take runners around the area commonly known as the ‘Frews’, hence the full name of the event: Thornhill 10K – Round the Frews. With only a small amount of elevation across the route, this course gives great potential for a running a fantastic time.
The 10K event was created in honour of local dairy farmer, Steven Black, who passed away in 2020 after a short battle with duodenal cancer. Not long after Steven passed away, his close friend Neil MacLaren started a year long challenge, of running 10K every day, to fundraise for Beatson Cancer Charity. Neil completed this amazing challenge in April 2021 and raised over £10,000. Runners now take on the same route that Neil pounded, through all weathers, to complete his 10K a day for a year challenge.
Organisers, Tay Fitness Events say: "We all want the memory of Steven to live on in the village and to continue to support the fight against cancer, in his honour. £2 from every entry fee will go to our 2024 charity along with fundraising on the day of the event.
"There will be hot and cold food and drinks available in the Thornhill Community Hall and funds raised from the catering will go to the 2024 charity. We would also encourage you to have something to eat or visit the shops in Thornhill, before and after the event."
