Escape the lockdown blues with this weekly virtual 5K
This free series aims to boost physical and mental wellbeing
The UK has gone into a third lockdown and people’s minds and bodies are feeling the strain after 10 months of a roller coaster ride through this global pandemic. Event organisers DB Max Sports Timing & Events have devised a free, weekly, virtual series titled Escape Lockdown 5K every Saturday that will help keep them sane as they wait for their turn to be vaccinated.
There is a sense of déjà vu but hope too as the vaccine programme gets underway. Staying fit and healthy has never been more important than now and running is one way of doing so and even better if there is a target to aim for. This is something to focus the mind on during the winter and beyond.
Participants run a virtual 5K on a Saturday at a time to suit them and have the choice of doing this for a couple of weeks or throughout the entire series which starts on 9 January. They record their run then submit their finish time for display on the online results page and can include a link to their Strava or Garmin data.
They share their achievements on social media by uploading photos and/or selfies and use the following tags: @dbmaxevents, @dbmax_timing or the hashtag #EL5k.
This event is fundraising for worthy causes and for the first two weeks, the recipient is The Fire Fighters Charity. Participants are welcome to donate to this charity.
Remember to follow the guidance regarding outdoor exercise and social distancing and stay safe.
