Village Runners

With its friendly atmosphere and attractive course, it’s easy to see why this 10K has become one of Yorkshire’s must-do events...

The Tholthorpe 10K returns on 7 September for its 29th year, in that time what began as a small local run has grown into a firm fixture on the calendar for running clubs and individual athletes across the region.

Starting and finishing beside the picturesque village pond, the course takes runners along quiet North Yorkshire roads, offering a flat and scenic route that attracts a mix of beginners, experienced runners and competitive club athletes. The race has gained a reputation for its welcoming atmosphere and community spirit, often selling out well in advance.

The village of Tholthorpe comes alive on race day, with spectators encouraged to come along and enjoy the festivities. Teas, homemade cakes, and sandwiches will be served in the village hall, while the prize-giving ceremony will take place on the village green.

This year’s event continues to support a good cause, with proceeds going to Tholthorpe Village Hall, which has undergone significant renovation work thanks in part to race entries and community support.

A £150 prize is on offer for any runner who can break the current course records, which stand at 30:36 for men, set by Darren Bilton in 2005, and 35:36 for women, set by Fay Banks in 2017.
