High five for Oundle 10K & 5K
The scenic New Year race celebrated its fifth birthday.
Runners shook off the January blues (and burnt off any post-Christmas calories) at the Oundle New Year 10K & 5K (Sunday 8 January). They eased into the 2023 season via this picturesque road race in Northamptonshire.
The tree and decorations had been packed away, the last chocolate eaten and the trainers dusted off, ready for the start of a new race season. Normal service was resumed after the Christmas festivities with a two lap 10K (or one lap 5K) around the market town of Oundle where a friendly atmosphere and enthusiastic support was the order of the day.
It was happy 5th birthday for the race that saw a mix of runners from those looking to put a marker down at the start of the year to others trying the distance for the first time. All were welcome.
Runners headed off at 10am from Oundle Primary School on quiet country roads through attractive villages with only mild undulations to deal with. They completed their laps then finished back at the Primary School.
In the 10K, Phil Martin of Peterborough & Nene Valley AC was first home in 33:30. A gap of more than a minute and a half separated him from Namir Batavia who came second in 35:17. Tom Greeves was third in 35:35.
Alice Brear Clarkson was the first female in 38:31 with Rosanna Andrews of Rugby and Northampton AC second in 38:44. Shannon Barton was third in 39:23.
Joanna Male (Senior Female) of West End Runners won the 5K in 17:56 followed by two Kettering Town Harriers – Ross Brown in 18:42 and Finley Brooker in 18:59.
Kettering Town Harriers' Claire Brooker finished second female in 20:24 with Anna-Marie Thompson of Sleaford Striders AC third in 22:48.
