Enjoying the view at the Burghley 7

Grand run out again at Burghley

Over 1,400 were delighted with this 7 mile spectacular.

Charm, elegance and plenty of smiles as the Burghley 7 returned last Sunday (13 March) and everyone made the most of the superb course and location. This included rare access to the private Burghley Estate, normally closed to the public and the privilege was much appreciated by those taking part.

Burghley Estate was one of several highlights of this well organised and attended road race from Pacesetter Events where runners of all abilities completed a 7 mile route that was designed to be a memorable experience. A feast for the eyes, it took them around Stamford and Burghley on a mild spring day with the aid of enthusiastic volunteers.

The scenic journey started at Bottle Lodges Tudor Gatehouse where runners were allocated to a start wave based on their predicted finishing time. They streamed away along the traffic-free, Georgian St Martin’s High Street, passing under the Gallows at the George Hotel, over the bridge, along the River Welland then into the Estate.

Running through parkland, woodland and well maintained grounds, past the deer park and walled gardens before exiting into the countryside and the village of Pilsgate. They continued along the Green Drift then re-entered Burghley Estate with the final mile along an old road specially designed by Lancelot ‘Capability’ Brown then a dash for the finish in front of Burghley House.

Aaron Scott was first across the line in 37:21 followed by Michael Aldridge in 38:17. Zac Peel was third in 38:36.

Hannah Rounds was first home for the women in 45:39; Bryony Cross second in 46:02 and Philippa Taylor third in 46:40.

Finishers were presented with a medal featuring the 16th century Burghley House as a memento of a splendid day out.
