Racing Mother Nature Herself

Bank holiday weekend's don't get much better than this...

Do you think you are strong enough to go against the great force of mother nature? Can you beat the tide? Cumbria’s Race The Tide (27-30 August) offers a unique bank holiday experience, with organisers billing the event as ‘the most fun obstacle tackling-running-ceilidhing-camping weekend you'll find in the Lake District’.

Starting and finishing in the historical grounds of Muncaster Castle, runners of all levels are challenged to race the tide following a 10km wild and natural route where they will be pushed to their limits to complete obstacles, crawl through mud, wade and swim through rivers and scramble to the top of wooded hillsides.

Every year the course is different. The ebb and flow of the tide sets out the route, creating obstacles, bigger and better than ever. Organisers design the course each year to be more challenging than the one before - so get get ready for lake swimming, hill running, water wading, rope bridge traversing, fence climbing and mud sliding.

There is only one guarantee and that is that the tide is always at your heels! Well that, and the tantalising prospect of a pint of Cumberland Ale, flapjack and medal as you cross the line… and a hot shower.

Offering a full weekend of activities organisers promise to keep participants on their toes! Get set up on the campsite and prepare yourselves to act, swim, dance, forage and more.

Race The Tide founder, Ewan Frost-Pennington says: “What started as a group of friends having fun has now developed into a crazy community of over 200 people.”

And in a ringing endorsement, previous participant, Emily Walsh from Australia told us: “I would recommend Race The Tide weekend 100 times over! When else do you get to adventure through historic castle grounds with friends, all the while soaking in sweeping views of the valley and to finish with a feast and lively ceilidh? A truly unique and unforgettable weekend!”
