Running Rannoch
Three distances to choose from at this scenic Perthshire event...
There's still time to be a part of a beauty of an event in Perthshire this autumn and with distances including 10K, half marathon and full marathon on offer, the Run Scotland Rannoch event will cater for lots of different standards of runners on 10 October.
Boasting one of the most scenic marathon routes in the UK, the Rannoch Marathon gets underway from the starting line in the heart of Kinloch Rannoch. Surrounded by lush hillsides and beautiful countryside at all times, the course takes runners around the outskirts of the 10 mile loch, occasionally heading into the heart of the landscape, and passing famous monuments such as the ancient Bridge of Gaur.
Running alongside Loch Rannoch's beautiful southern shores is sure to be an unforgettable racing experience. Whether runners are looking to step up their mileage or to hit a new PB, this out-and-back route is a perfect test of endurance.
The 10K option gets the weekend started on the Saturday while there is also the half marathon option on the Sunday - which distance will you go for this year?
The Loch Rannoch Marathon has pedigree, going back to the 1980's when it was the course of the Scottish Championships. Race organisers, Run Nation, revived the race in 2015 and it has since re-established itself on the UK running scene and is a bucket list event for many marathon runners.
Over 200 runners took part in 2023's marathon with Struan Simpson winning in a time of 2:42:15. First female was Sara Eydmann in 3:08:24. In the half marathon there were close to 300 runners with Ross Horgan of Bellahouston Road Runners claiming the top spot in 1:13:37 and it was Strathearn Harrier Nicola Watson who took first place in the women's race with a time of 1:40:19.
Paul McMahon was first in the 10K with a time of 36:30 while Mairi-Anne Miller won in the women's race with a time of 43:47.
