The River Ayr Way Challenge
The River Ayr Way Challenge
Saturday 14 Sep 2019, 9.00am start
This annual 40 mile ultra-marathon, often referred to as the RAW Challenge, is a popular event in the Scottish Ultra Marathon series and attracts runners from all over the country.
The River Ayr Way is Scotland’s first source to sea path network. It passes through some of Ayrshire’s most spectacular and varied scenery with an abundance of wildlife, and runs from the source of the river at Glenbuck Loch to the sea at Ayr. It officially opened in 2006 and has attracted ultra-runners ever since.
What to expect:
- Running conditions: Mostly off road – some small sections on quiet roads and last 5 miles on tarmac. Some sections are muddy underfoot. Race finishes at Dam Park track in Ayr
- Checkpoints every 5 miles with water
- Checkpoints every 10 with , food and fruit, cold drinks and words of encouragement
- Bag drop to checkpoints available
- Transport to the start of the race
- Rucksacks transported to the finish
- A much coveted medal and T-shirt
If 40 miles doesn’t appeal, there is a relay option. We advise teams of 3 for this but can be done with a team of 2
Entries close on 1 September. Entries are £27 (£25 scottishathletics) and £50 for the team relay.
