When The Forth Road Bridge Belongs To Runners
Supernova returns on 7 November with a rare chance to walk, jog or run 5K across a traffic free Forth Road Bridge illuminated against the night sky...
This relates to: Supernova Forth Road Bridge
There are running routes with great views, and then there is the opportunity to run straight across one of Scotland's most recognisable landmarks with the entire carriageway closed to traffic.
Supernova Forth Road Bridge returns on Saturday 7 November, transforming the famous crossing into an illuminated 5K playground for one evening.
The event begins at 5:00pm and is deliberately different from a conventional road race. Participants are encouraged to arrive in fluorescent clothing and anything that glows or flashes, with light and colour features adding to the spectacle. Everyone also receives an LED head torch.
The route itself makes this Supernova particularly special. Starting in South Queensferry, runners first pass beneath the bridge before climbing onto the main carriageway. With traffic removed completely, they head north beneath the huge bridge towers towards North Queensferry before turning and making the journey back across the Forth to finish in South Queensferry.
Speed is optional. The event is open to walkers and joggers as well as runners, with participants encouraged to enjoy the surroundings and stop for photographs if they wish. Entrants must be at least 12, with under 16s accompanied by an adult.
The event has quickly established itself after the inaugural Forth Road Bridge Supernova in 2024. Its unusual setting proved immediately popular, and the combination of darkness, thousands of illuminated participants and an otherwise traffic dominated piece of Scottish infrastructure creates images unlike almost anything else on the running calendar.
Transport is part of the experience too. Participants travel to and from the bridge using event transport from the designated travel hub, allowing the organisers to create the traffic free environment required for the evening.
Plenty of 5Ks promise a quick time. Supernova offers something rather different. For one November evening, the Forth Road Bridge stops being somewhere to cross and becomes somewhere to run.
Entries are available now via the runABC race hub.
