10 Years of The Rainford 10K!
This scenic Merseyside 10K returns for an anniversary year this October...
Merseyside's Rainford 10K will return for its 10th year on Sunday 6 October. The event is a scenic 10K with a mixed terrain course that starts and finishes at the Rainford High School square.
The route takes in the picturesque footpaths and trails around Rainford. Rainford High Technology College host the race and have done since the event began.
The race originated 10 years ago, but has had a new route since 2018. Speaking about the course, organisers say: "The route, which is on and off road, makes the race a lot more central to the village and our base, Rainford High School square. It’s also now a much more scenic course, taking advantage of the full length of the picturesque linear park and returning to the school with a view across the finish area.
"Although different, the current course follows a relatively similar terrain so if you’ve completed the Rainford 10K in previous years, you shouldn’t find it any more challenging."
The fun run route is all within the school grounds and starts within the all weather pitches and finishes under the same O2 Gantry as the 10K race.
The event raises money for various charities in memory of George Faulkner who was a pupil at Rainford Technology College between 2002 and 2007. George loved all forms of sport and was training to become a joiner until he was fatally injured aged 17 in a road accident in 2008. The First Rainford 10K race was set up so that his friends, family and local community could remember him and to raise funds for a number of charities, including The Compassionate Friends.
There is a prize giving ceremony towards the end of the main 10K race which is worth sticking around for - businesses from around Rainford and St Helens donate prizes for the various categories, and the fastest runner will be awarded the George Faulkner Memorial Trophy.
