Leeds Race With Lots To Love

Make the most of the light nights with this evening race in Leeds...

Race organiser, Great Owl Running's primary goal is to provide fun trail races based on some of their favourite trails all of which have been discovered whilst living in and exploring Leeds and Yorkshire at large. Looking ahead to next month and their first evening event of the year will be staged at Leeds' Piglove By The River on 24 April.

The clocks changing this weekend means the prospect of a (sunny) evening race is once again within touching distance. This particular evening event has two distances on offer, 5K and 10K. The 5K starts at Piglove and follows the Trans Pennine Trail for 2.5K and turns around just before Thwaite Mills. This is a very fast and flat course with very good quality footpath conditions.

The 10K follows the same path as the 5K but continues past Thwaite Mills and then gets ever so slightly more rugged but is still very good fast running conditions. As it follows the river it is incredibly flat, however there is one small bridge with steps that must be crossed.

Speaking about their events as a whole, a spokesperson from Great Owl Running said: "We want to keep things relatively simple, and reasonably priced. So if you like a fun, challenging and good looking course look no further. Forget the medal, lets all have a chinwag about our race experience over a cup of hot soup and crusty roll and maybe even pint at the end.

"The main goal of Great Owl running is to start a community of kind like minded souls from the front to the back (and the mid-pack) without breaking the bank. We like to keep it personal."

This event certainly comes good on the possibility of a post race pint as the venue - Piglove By The River - is in fact a gorgeous open-air venue that serves up good vibes as well as bold and fragrant beers! All finishers will receive a drink courtesy of Piglove Brewery and all medals and t-shirts will be sold as optional extras upon entry, to reduce the race's impact on the environment and to make the race more affordable for everyone.
