Some Like It Tough
The Lake District running race regarded as the UK’s toughest road marathon is predicting a bright future after landing sports brand as a new lead sponsor...
The UK's toughest road marathon, the Langdale Marathon, has a new lead sponsor in Lake District sports brand, inov-8. The Brathay Trust organised Langdale Marathon, first staged 36 years ago by ‘Rocket’ Rod Berry, sees runners complete a 26.2-mile road course that includes 3,340ft of gruelling ascent amid the stunning Langdale valley - more than the equivalent height of Scafell Pike, England’s highest mountain.
The event is beautiful and challenging, set amid England’s most spectacular mountain scenery and attracts both seasoned runners and a large number people looking for their next challenge. The 2024 edition of the marathon and associated half marathon will take place on 19 October.
The collaboration between two local organisations both dedicated to inspiring people will boost Brathay’s charitable mission to support and empower young people across the UK in building brighter futures. Brathay Trust delivers life-changing residential programmes for young people at its Lake District centre, as well as within community settings in Bradford and Cumbria.
Teresa Jennings of Brathay Trust said: “We’re thrilled to be partnering with inov-8 for the Langdale Marathon and Half Marathon. Uniting two local brands with a shared commitment to our local community, this collaboration brings a brighter future for this iconic event.
“With the support of inov-8, we can raise essential funds for our youth programmes, providing transformative experiences and vital community support to help the young people of Cumbria build their brighter future.”
Inov-8's Wayne Edy said: “Although we have a long history of supporting local sports events and charities, this marks our first time as the lead sponsor of a road running event. It’s hugely exciting for us, especially as the event is here in the Lake District and has that unique appeal of being the UK’s toughest!"
