Cambridge Half Marathon

First class course at Cambridge Half

Over 11,000 runners put the new route at yesterday's (Sunday 8 March) Cambridge Half Marathon to the test. This took them on a historic tour of the city, passing through two famous colleges - King’s College and Jesus College and was awarded full marks by the attendees.

The Saucony Cambridge Half Marathon made its debut in 2012 and since then has grown to become a ‘must do’ race due to the location, support and atmosphere. This ancient city has a skyline dominated by several colleges including King’s College and Jesus College and these two august institutions were an integral part of the new course that was both flat and fast. It was also traffic-free.

Blue skies and sunshine were a welcome sight as they streamed away – in start waves - from Midsummer Common; running along the Backs at King’s College and around the city whilst enjoying views of the River Cam and other landmarks: then past St Mary & St Michael Church and through Jesus College before finishing on the Common.

Jonathan Escalante-Phillips of Cambridge & Coleridge AC was the winner in 1:05:36, over a minute and half ahead of teammate Chris Darling who was second in 1:07:10. Alex Milne of Hercules Wimbledon AC was third in 1:07:25.

There was another winning result for Cambridge and Coleridge AC in the women’s race with Victoria Knight first in 1:14:45. Emma Hodson of Cambridge University Hare and Hounds was second in 1:17:16 and Katie Brown of Trent Park RC third in 1:19:53.

There is the opportunity to pre-register for the 2021 race via the Saucony Cambridge Half Marathon website. Ideally suited to first timers as well as those who enjoyed the new route and want to return.
