Danny Soltys And Kelly Butler Win At Knighton

Double wins for Soltys & Butler at Knighton

Daniel Soltys and Kelly Butler were winners at Sunday’s (8 March) Knighton 20 after racing around an undulating three lap course. They were also crowned Staffordshire Champions on a tough day for Kelly.

The VeloRunner-Envisage Knighton 20, always a favourite with runners preparing for a spring marathon, is the second race in the NSRRA 2020 programme. Such is its popularity that the 20 miler and relays both sold out weeks beforehand – the first time in the race’s history. The event also hosted the Staffordshire Championships.

Conditions were dry with a mild breeze as over 300 runners gathered at Knighton Sports and Social Club near to the Staffordshire/Shropshire border. At 10.30am they set off to complete three laps on country lanes around Knighton that included a hill at the end of each loop and a drinks station.

It was an impressive run by Daniel Soltys of Stone MM to win the Knighton 20 in 1:56:15. He finished over three minutes in front of Oliver Harradence of Royal Sutton Coldfield AC in 1:59:17. Harradence’s teammate Barry Lloyd was third in 2:00:11.

Emma Taylor of Newcastle (Staffs) AC led the way for most of the women’s race and at mile 14, was three minutes ahead of Kelly Butler. however the Birchfield Harrier fought her way through the field to be first across the line in 2:13:45 followed by Emma in 2:13:53. Anna Hollingworth of Stone MM came third in 2:15:39.

Staying with winning runs....Rita Banks of Stone MM set a new NSRRA F75 20 mile record, finishing in 4:28:08.

Team ‘BGT does Knighton’ won the relay in 1:57:57.
