Horncastle parkrun

New parkrun for Lincolnshire

If the launch event is anything to go by, Horncastle’s newest Saturday morning tradition is set for a bright future...

History was made in Horncastle on 22 March, as Queen Elizabeth’s Grammar School parkrun welcomed 203 runners and walkers for its highly anticipated first event. After more than five years of planning, event directors and local parkrun enthusiasts finally saw their dream become reality, putting Horncastle on the national and global parkrun map.

Despite a gloomy weather forecast, conditions turned out near-perfect and spirits were high as runners took on the four-lap, all-grass course around the school playing fields. Volunteers, supporters, and runners from Horncastle Running Group and Woodhall Spa Steamers turned out in force, adding to the celebratory atmosphere. The post-run coffee stall outside the school hut was buzzing, with cups flying off the table as participants gathered to reflect on a successful launch.

Event director, Robin Harrison commented: "What a fantastic morning! After years of trying and with the incredible help of Laura, my fellow event director, and Joanna, our local event support ambassador, plus so many local parkrun supporters, we finally made it happen. The energy around the venue was electric, and to top it off, every single participant achieved a PB!”

With event number one now in the books, Horncastle’s newest weekly 5K is ready to build on its success. The second event takes place this weekend (29 March), with runners, walkers and volunteers all welcome to join in.
