New Ultra For Spring
Fylde Coast Runners have a brand new ultra race coming to the north west this spring...
Brand new for 2024, the Kendal to Preston Ultra 50 is billed by organisers, Fylde Coast Runners, as 'awe-inspiring'! And when you find out where the route goes, it is easy to see why those words are so fitting.
Taking place on 11 May, runners will start their journey at Lakeland Maize Maze Farm in the charming village of Sedgwick, located on the outskirts of Kendal and will finish that journey at the Preston Sports Arena. Along the way, runners will encircle the historic Lancaster Canal, originally built to transport coal from Kendal to Lancaster and beyond.
Throughout the scenic 50 mile route runners will be treated to breathtaking vistas, with Morecambe Bay to the right and the stunning landscapes of hills and dales to the left. The route will take participants through various picturesque towns and locales, including Burton in Kendal, Tewitfield, Carnforth, Lancaster, Galgate, Forton, and Garstang.
Organisers told us: "Whether it’s your first venture into ultra-distance running or you’re a veteran of the terrain, the Kendal to Preston Ultra 50 is not just a race but a journey of discovery, resilience, and camaraderie. Alongside like-minded adventurers, you'll uncover the rugged beauty concealed within every mile, celebrating both personal victories and shared triumphs.
"Join us and define your own limits, find unexpected reservoirs of strength, and explore the timeless landscapes lying between Kendal and Preston."
The course is well marked and features four checkpoints along the way. The run is suitable for beginners wanting to try an ultra and for seasoned ultra-runners looking for a PB over the distance. All participants will receive a blingtastic medal and custom hoodie. Coach travel to the start is available if you choose to register at Preston or overnight camping if you register at Kendal.
