Marathon No Mhor... For Now!
It's a farewell, but not a goodbye, from Mhor Marathon...
One of the country's most scenic marathons will not appear on the Scottish fixture list next year with runners shocked to hear news that the 'aesthetically amazing' Mhor Marathon will take a 'pause' in 2024.
Organisers, Tay Fitness, announced this week: "We have made the decision to take a fallow year in 2024 with the Mhor Marathon. Unfortunately, the event, as much we love it, has never attracted the numbers needed to make it viable.
"We will never cut corners in terms of participant experience or safety, which inevitably brings with it substantial costs. This obviously impacts the Trilogy, which without the marathon, is no longer possible and will also not 'run' in 2024."
Runners were quick to respond to the announcement on social media with Hazel Ross commenting on Facebook: "Sorry to read this, I was hoping to tick it off in 2024, hopefully it’ll come back. I’ll still support your other events though, so well organised, just ran Killin for 2nd time, brilliant!"
While Liz Maxwell concurred: "Sorry to hear this. I took part in the first 2 Trilogy events and made friends for life through them! I always thought I’d eventually complete a trilogy of Trilogies! Fingers crossed it comes back bigger & better than ever!"
The organisation's other two Run Mhor events will go ahead as planned with the Hidden Glen 10K set for 21 April and the Mhor 84 10K and Half Marathon planned for 9 June 2024. The April event has been voted Best 10K in Scotland and Third Best in the UK in previous years and it's no surprise, starting at boutique hotel Monachyle Mhor, this is not your average 10K with runners tracing the banks of Loch Doine and running deep into Monachyle Glen.
The Mhor 84 events both start at the renowned Mhor 84 Motel, with runners enjoying stunning views as they run between Balquhidder, Strathyre and Lochearnhead along cycle route 7. Entries for these events will open on 4 September at 7pm - so set an alarm!
