One of the oldest road races in the country is back in 2023 and will be celebrating its 40th anniversary. The Lostock 6 promises runners 6 miles of smiles, and with a special anniversary run planned this could be more true than usual at the upcoming event.
Scheduled for 26 February, this 6 mile road race is hosted by Lostock AC and takes place annually on the last Sunday in February. The 2022 staging saw some 400 runners take to the streets of Bolton in what was yet another sell-out for the ever-popular event.
The sun was shining this year with many people running a fantastic race. Harry Wakefield of Salford Harriers won the race in a time of 29:59 with Neil Pendlebury of Leigh Harriers & AC coming in second in 31:01, Third place was taken by Benjamin Coop of Bury AC in 31:38.
The women's race was won by Leah Peploe of Leigh Harriers & AC with a time of 35:30. Second place was taken by Dee Allen also of Leigh Harriers & AC in 35:34 and third went to Heather Brown, a Bolton United Harrier in a time of 36:32.
As the final runner crossed the finishline at this year's race, attentions turned to the 2023 staging and the 40th anniversary celebrations. Organisers say: “It will be a special one, our 40th year of our Lostock 6, lets make it one to remember.
"We are busy planning and organising for a very special 40th Lostock 6 race which will include a special 40th Anniversary medal. We hope to see some of our regulars and welcome any first timers to our friendly race."
For the fast runners among you, it is worth noting that there is a £150 prize for breaking the male or female course records which currently stand at 29:44 held by Carl Darcy (Salford Harriers) and 34:16 set by Laura Hesketh (Clayton-le-Moors Harriers).
