Records Fall At Loch Ness Marathon
With records broken both on the course and in entry numbers, Loch Ness Marathon has once again cemented its reputation as one of the UK’s most iconic running festivals...
The 2025 Baxters Loch Ness Marathon & Festival of Running once again delivered an unforgettable, sell-out weekend in the Highlands, with 10,700 runners from around the world descending on Inverness to take on one of the UK’s most scenic running events.
Entries sold out across all distances, from the full marathon and the Baxters River Ness 10K and 5K to the Wee Nessie fun run. Participants of all ages embraced the challenge, with 33% of 5K entries coming via local schools and clubs, and more than half of all runners aged under 18.
There were standout performances on the course. In the marathon, Alex Milne of Hercules Wimbledon AC smashed the men’s course record with a time of 2:15:46, while Melissah Gibson of the 100 Marathon Club defended her women’s title in 2:43:08.
The River Ness 10K saw Sean Chalmers of Aberdeen AAC cross the line first in 28:59, with Caitlyn Heggie of Inverness Harriers winning the women’s race in 36:04. In the 5K, Lachlan Thomas of Ross County AC (16:16) and Hayleigh Reid of Young Meldrum Runners (19:06) took top honours.
Beyond the finish line, Bught Park was alive with entertainment, food, live music and family activities, creating a true festival atmosphere. With charity fundraising at its heart, thousands of pounds were raised for causes including official partner Macmillan Cancer Support.
Malcolm Sutherland, CEO of organisers Caledonian Concepts said: “What an incredible weekend we’ve had here in the Highlands. The Baxters Loch Ness Marathon & Festival of Running continues to go from strength to strength, and this year we’ve once again seen an amazing turnout from across Scotland, the UK and beyond. It’s always inspiring to see people of all ages and abilities enjoying the event, and I’m immensely proud of everyone who played their part in making 2025 such a success.”
