Runners At The Liverpool Half Marathon

Liverpool Half Marathon runners encouraged to support local food banks

Community-minded organiser BTR Liverpool is asking runners at Sunday’s (15 March) Liverpool Skyline Half Marathon to support city food banks. Meanwhile Arriva North West is showing its support by offering runners free bus travel on the day.

BTR Liverpool is committed to ensuring their races are environmentally-friendly as well as enjoyable and they have the backing of Arriva North West who provided complimentary travel to participants in Liverpool Santa Dash for the last three years. Both organisations look to reduce their carbon footprint and encourage others to do the same.

Participants can do that by taking advantage of free bus travel across Merseyside throughout the day. To claim this they will be required to wear their race number on the way to the event and to show their finisher’s medal on the way home.

In keeping with the community ethos, runners are encouraged to donate a food item to Liverpool food banks. Fans Supporting Foodbanks will set up a collection point at the Pier Head where runners and spectators can give non-perishable food items.

The 27th BTR Liverpool Skyline Half Marathon and 5th BTR Liverpool 10 Miler start at 9am from the Pier Head. Runners take a tour around the city, passing iconic landmarks including the Anglican Cathedral and the Albert Dock and along the waterfront promenade and the Marina.

Volunteer Race Angels and drumming group Batala Mersey will boost runners towards the finish where they receive a medal wrapped in sustainable tissue paper. This drive to reduce single use plastic means post-race refreshments are handed out instead of a goody bag.

Online registration closes at 12pm this Thursday. Visit the BTR Liverpool website for details.
