Flat Cap 5 2026

Flat Cap 5 Brings Yorkshire Spirit Back To Dewsbury

Flat caps and pies return...

The Flat Cap 5 returns to Dewsbury on 30 July 2026 with runners once again preparing for one of Yorkshire’s most distinctive and light hearted summer races. Organised by Dewsbury Road Runners, the popular five mile multi terrain event celebrates Yorkshire Day with flat caps, pie and peas, canal paths and a strong community atmosphere around The Leggers Inn.

The race follows a slightly undulating route using the Dewsbury Ossett Greenway, canal towpaths and off road trails before finishing back beside the canal at the Leggers Inn. While the event remains fully competitive with prizes across age groups and team categories, the relaxed Yorkshire Day spirit continues to give the race its unique identity.

Flat caps remain very much part of the tradition, with runners encouraged to wear them throughout the race and prizes awarded for the best decorated headwear on the night. Pie and peas at the finish have also become part of the event’s reputation, helping create a social atmosphere long after runners have crossed the line.

Dewsbury Road Runners continues to play a major role in the local running scene, with the club welcoming runners of all abilities through regular training sessions, beginner groups and social events. The club has built a reputation for combining competitive running with a strong social side and community focus across West Yorkshire.

One of the reasons the Flat Cap 5 continues to attract runners each summer is its balance between serious racing and Yorkshire humour. Fast club runners line up alongside runners simply looking to enjoy the atmosphere, wear a flat cap and celebrate Yorkshire Day in a slightly different way.

Entries are now open for the 2026 event, with organisers again expecting strong demand for the popular summer evening race in Dewsbury.
