Oldham Half Marathon by Darren Robinson

Last Call For Oldham Half

Anyone looking for a testing 13.1 miles to really push on with their late autumn training could perhaps find no better home than the upcoming Oldham Half Marathon on Sunday 28 October.

Entries for the race, however, are soon to close, with prospective entrants having until later on today (Friday 19 October) to make their move. The event, entering its sixth year, moves through Oldham and its many miles of countryside and is said to push challengers 'o their limits while offering some of the best scenery the borough has to offer.'

Runners will travel a hilly route that will take them to the spectacular Saddleworth area of Oldham. The course incorporates some breathtaking views of the Saddleworth villages and the imposing moorland landscape of the Peak District National Park. Returning via Grasscroft, Lydgate, Lees and the Glodwick areas of Oldham this race guarantees fantastic local support from the diverse communities of Oldham.

Last year saw a full house of 600 registrants, with Salford Harriers’ pair Bruno Lima (67:10) and Jan Pichl (67:37) claiming a 1-2 in the men’s field. In the women’s competition, Royton Road Runners’ Sophie Wood bagged first in 92:10, followed by Cat Jessop (93:05).

The half is part of the Milltown Race Series, put together by race organisers Milltown Races. More info, including registration details for next weekend’s half marathon, is available here.
