Wigan Gets Ready To Run

Wigan 10K heads for a record year...

This relates to: Wigan 10K

The Wigan 10K returns on Sunday 6 September 2026, with organisers preparing for what promises to be the biggest edition of the event since it first took to the streets more than a decade ago.

Hosted by the Joining Jack charity, the race has become one of the North West's most popular 10K events, attracting thousands of runners while raising vital funds for research into Duchenne muscular dystrophy. The event has grown steadily year after year, with record participation and fundraising helping to cement its place as one of the region's standout community running occasions.

The officially measured and UK Athletics certified course starts and finishes in Mesnes Park before taking runners on a fast tour of Wigan. Closed roads, enthusiastic crowds, live entertainment and excellent race organisation create an atmosphere that appeals equally to first time 10K runners and experienced club athletes chasing a personal best.

Every finisher receives a medal and goody bag, while spectators can enjoy food vendors, live music and entertainment throughout the morning. The popular Family Mile also returns, giving younger runners and families the opportunity to be part of the day's celebrations in support of Joining Jack.

At the heart of the event is an inspiring cause. Joining Jack was established to fund research into Duchenne muscular dystrophy following the diagnosis of young Jack Johnson. Since the race was launched, hundreds of thousands of pounds have been raised, with the event becoming one of the charity's biggest annual fundraisers while also supporting participants raising money for causes close to their own hearts.

Whether you're chasing a new personal best, running for charity or simply soaking up the atmosphere, the Wigan 10K continues to deliver an unforgettable race day experience. Combining a fast course, fantastic community support and an inspirational purpose, it remains one of the highlights of the North West running calendar.
