The Keswick Half Marathon returns on Sunday 20 September 2026, offering runners the chance to take on one of the UK's most scenic and rewarding road races in the heart of the Lake District.

Organised by volunteers from Keswick Rugby Club, the event has been a favourite on the running calendar since 1981. Starting in Portinscale and finishing at Keswick Rugby Club, the challenging 13.1 mile route takes runners on a spectacular circuit around Derwentwater, with an additional loop into the beautiful Newlands Valley before returning to Keswick.

The course is renowned for its stunning scenery as much as its demanding profile. With more than 360 metres of elevation gain, runners are rewarded with breathtaking views across Derwentwater, surrounding fells and some of the Lake District's most iconic landscapes. It is a race that demands respect but consistently leaves participants eager to return.

New for 2026 is chip timing, with runners receiving a race number containing an embedded timing chip. Live results will also be available throughout race day, adding another enhancement to an event that has continued to evolve while retaining its friendly, volunteer-led atmosphere.

Every runner who enters before the September deadline will receive a commemorative event T-shirt, with the option to purchase a handcrafted local slate medal. Water stations are positioned throughout the course, while more than 50 volunteers help create the warm welcome and enthusiastic support that have become hallmarks of the event.

Far more than simply a race, the Keswick Half Marathon is one of the biggest annual fundraisers for Keswick Rugby Club, helping to support grassroots rugby across the local community. Every entry contributes towards coaching, facilities and opportunities for players of all ages.
