Lakes in a Day Runner

Shorter Course Joins Lakes Event

Entries are now open for one of Cumbria's most epic races and in 2025 it will include a shorter distance for the first time...

Lakes in a Day (LIAD) is back for 2025 and for the first time a 23 mile event will run alongside the regular 50 miler. Organisers commented: "LIAD Half will run on the same day as LIAD and will see athletes undertake the undulating trails from Ambleside to Cartmel. It has been designed for those who want a taster of Lakes in a Day or simply to run a shorter distance. Both events will share the same finishing line experience at Cartmel."

Entries opened this week for the event which is scheduled for 11 October. The epic 50 miler has 4000m of ascent and will see runners set off on a journey from the top of the Lake District at Caldbeck to the bottom, at Cartmel, via the stunning Helvellyn Ridge and the western shoreline of Lake Windermere. It might not be the easiest traverse but it will be the most spectacular! Organisers point out: "You'll be ascending and descending half the height of Everest as well as covering 50 miles through bog, trod, river, and trail."

The shorter 23 miler has 850m of ascent and will see runners take on a journey from Ambleside to Cartmel - all the fun of the longer distance event but on a fully waymarked route. It will be the perfect challenge for those building up to the full Lakes in a Day, training for their first ultra or simply seeking an challenging trail run.

To make your race day run as smooth as possible, camping is available on Friday night at Cartmel and Saturday for those who finish late or have a long journey home after the race. Event organiser's, Durty Events, do these events properly and will also make sure you are well taken care of on the course.

A spokesperson commented: "All feed stations will have hot drinks available as well as a range of savoury and sweet treats to power you up the next climb. Any surplus perishable foods are donated to local food banks and Manna House in Kendal – so we don’t shy from putting out a bit too much."
