Joss to re-write history at Lake District Mountain Trail

Legendary fell runner Joss Naylor has revealed that he is planning to complete the route of the 1962 Lake District Mountain Trail. The 83-year-old, who has now completed an incredible 51 mountain trails, has also opened the door to anyone who would like to run part of the route with him on Saturday 20 July.

This summer’s challenge will see Joss cover part of the 1962 route, the one mountain trail he started but didn’t finish. Horrible conditions (plus cramp) meant that Joss, plus most of the field, were forced to retire early.

The route planned out for July will entail a day on the fells commencing from the Kirkstone Pass Inn through Stoney Cove Pike, Thornthwaite Crag, High Street, Angle Tarn, Place Fell and Patterdale. Joss is raising money for the Brathay Trust, a charity that inspires children and young people to engage positively in their communities

An iconic figure on the racing scene, Joss boasts a prolific CV and has completed, among many others, the Bob Graham Round, the Welsh 3000s and the Pennine Way. In 1976, he was awarded an MBE for his work with sport and charity.
