Samarathon launches for July
To raise awareness of the Samaritans, the charity has launched a challenge for July and is encouraging us to run, jog or walk 26.2 miles over the course of the month. The 26.2 miles can be covered in one day, 10 or over 31 – the only requirement is that you fulfill the obligation of the entire distance.
Samaritans have launched the challenge as a way of motivating more people to get active to improve their mental wellbeing. Samarathon therefore invites the nation to go at their own pace, take part with friends and family this summer and raise money to help the charity be there for those struggling to cope.
Samaritans CEO Ruth Sutherland said: “We all know that keeping physically fit has a positive impact on someone’s mental wellbeing. Living in a world where people can feel a lot of pressure to look good, we thought it was important to roll out a fitness-fundraising initiative that focused on feeling good."
Ruth continued: "We hope supporters will encourage their friends and family of all ages to take part so it can be an achievable challenge they share and enjoy together.”
Samarathon offers completely free entry for those looking to take part and will offer free training advice for anyone undertaking the challenge. The website lists the top fundraisers, and if you are able to raise over £150 during your Samarathon, you will be entered in to a draw to win a bundle of sporting goodies.
