inov-8 team virtually run the world in 7 days
inov-8 world team runs 25,000 virtual miles in a week.
Nearly 1,000 runners had the world virtually at their feet as they logged 25,000 miles for inov-8 and their Play Your Part campaign. Every member of the global team made an important contribution and came together towards the end to cross the virtual finish line in 7 days.
Jules Verne’s Phileas Fogg may have gone around the world in 80 days but this enthusiastic, motivated and determined team of runners managed to do it in 7 days albeit virtually. This global challenge has played a vital role in the Play Your Part campaign, set up by inov-8 at the beginning of the coronavirus outbreak to keep runners motivated during the crisis. This campaign has provided face coverings and bags for key workers and the use of their ‘Get A Grip’ van for local support groups delivering food to vulnerable people.
The #inov8worldrunteam rather appropriately, started their challenge on 3 June – Global Running Day - and clocked up 2,135 miles. The miles increased as did the team and by the time they reached the fourth day they had recorded 8,346 miles. Day 5 saw them dig deep to reach 14,634 miles. On days 6 and 7 they were joined by others from other countries including Canada and South Africa and this international tour de force logged the last 10, 366 miles and over the virtual finish line on 9 June.
They notched up 25,000 virtual miles that is equivalent to one lap around the equator. Inov-8 awarded spot prizes to runners each day of the week long challenge. Many of these posted selfies and videos on social media.
Their towering efforts were praised by Michael Price, COO of inov-8 who said: “What a fantastic achievement in these difficult times.”
