Duct Duct Goose Joins The Gallop

This year a 2K fun run will join proceedings at Nottinghamshire's Goose Fair Gallop...

Entries have not long opened for this year's Goose Fair Gallop which will return to Nottinghamshire on Sunday 13 October. Now is the perfect time to get your autumn race schedule sorted and this 10K which boasts a scenic course and includes an ‘Iron Giant’ should be top of the list.

Organised by Kimberley & District Striders, the race is always held on the last day of the Nottingham Goose Fair – hence the name – and its influence is still felt via the goody bags which contain items associated with this famous event.

2024 will be the 38th year of the event which starts on the stunning Bennerley Viaduct and heads into Bennerley Woodland before taking runners along the Erewash and Nottingham Canals. Those taking part then head along country trails before turning back towards the viaduct and down into the race village.

Bennerley Viaduct is a Grade II listed structure which is a quarter of a mile long and stands astride the River Erewash. Known as the ‘Iron Giant’, it is nearly 150 years old and a classic example of British engineering.

For the first time a fun run will join proceedings, organisers say: "We are pleased to announce our 1st Duct Duct Goose Fun Run. Those taking part in the 2K race will run along the Bennerley Viaduct heading into Bennerley Woodland where they will reach a turn round point and collect a 'goose' before heading back to the race village.

"All participants will get to keep the goose they have retrieved and be awarded with a medal at the end of the race too!"
