Flying Through 2024
You'd be batty to miss this autumn 10 miler...
Head to the scenic Staffordshire village of Standon this autumn for an undulating 10 mile road race through rolling countryside. First held in 2003, the Flying Fox 10 is a challenging but popular fixture on the North Staffs Road Runners Association programme.
Organised by Stone Master Marathoners, this year's race will take place on 3 November and will once again see runners take on a course that winds through picturesque, quiet country lanes. The route includes the beautiful villages of Chapel Chorlton and Maer, with a small hill or two along the way!
The race finishes outside Race HQ at the local school in Standon. Organisers say: Post race there will be ample refreshments to suit the weather, which at that time of the year can be somewhat ‘variable’!"
The race is deserving of its name - with a new course record set in 2023 by Nicholas Barry of Sale Harriers in 52:44, surpassing the previous record of 53:35 held by Ben Gamble of Tipton Harriers. Organisers are keen to stress that anyone can have a go, saying: "The race is to be enjoyed by most of us ‘mere mortals’, at whatever speed we want!"
All finishers will receive a memento which in the past has been a bottle of Flying Fox ale.
