Final few days of 5K fundraiser for the Friends of Craigtoun Country Park
Local runners asked to show their appreciation for long-time supporters of St Andrews parkrun
Just a few days remain to sign up to run and support one of Fife’s favourite open spaces – and home of the St Andrews parkrun – Craigtoun Country Park.
Like many organisations, the Friends of Craigtoun Park – the volunteers who have helped promote, support and improve the park since 2012 – have lost a considerable proportion of their annual income due to Coronavirus restrictions.
To raise funds for the Friends – and thereby help secure the future of the Country Park – members of jogscotland Leven have organised a series of 5K runs held over the space of a week (Saturday 22 August through to Sunday 30 August).
Daylight start times (0630–1000 and 1700–1930) during the park’s quieter hours, two-minute minimum gap between starts and a maximum of two runners per time slot 2m-wide path have all been put in place to ensure that those taking part can obey current social distancing regulations.
The route to be run is the same as that used for the St Andrews parkrun – whose organisers have also urged their followers to take part. Start and finish points will be marked, but it will not be marshalled.
The deadline to register for the fundraising runs is midnight this Friday (28 August).
After registration, runners must also email the organisers to request their preferred day(s) and time-slot(s) and confirm their age/gender categories. Runners may register for, pay for and complete more than one run. After completing their run(s), participants have until midnight on Monday, 31 August to submit their times.
No prizes or medals will be awarded, but at the end of the nine days a list of runners and their times will be published on the Friends of Craigtoun Park Facebook page.
All money raised from the £5 per head entry fee – and any additional donations made at registration – will go directly to the Friends of Craigtoun.
