Cancer Research UK London Virtual Run medal

Running laps with apps to beat cancer

London Winter Run on 3 February 2019 is the latest major event to embrace virtual running as part of their race offer. Anyone unable to gain entry to the main event can still secure one of the coolest medals around by taking part in the Cancer Research UK Virtual Winter Run.

The aim is to ensure that anyone, wherever they are based in the world, can participate in the fund raising and personal activity of the original London Winter Run Series and receive one of the iconic medals in the post as a tangible reward.

Cancer Research UK Virtual Winter Run participants will need to enter the event and set up the appropriate Cancer Research UK fundraising page on Everyday Hero to help beat cancer sooner. The challenge is to run 10kms per week throughout January, which can be all in one go, or as a culmination of several runs.

You can run wherever and whenever you fancy, so take to the streets in the evening or go for a jog at lunchtime, whatever suits your personal programme. You must then complete a final 10km run (in one go) during the weekend of 2/3 February 2019. You’ll need to track your runs using Strava, Map My Fitness or Fitbit, which are all compatible with Cancer Research UK Virtual Winter Run, so you’ll be able to see how your challenge is coming along.

Once you’ve completed your final run, a shiny top class medal will drop through the door a few days later. There are 200 launch places available for just £8 for a limited time, increasing to £12 for the remaining 800 places once the initial entries have been sold out.

The Cancer Research UK London Winter Run website will carry details of the leading fundraisers and their mileages as they progress. This is already live on the website here

So if you want to be in at the birth of a completely new way of raising money for charity by running laps with apps for Cancer Research UK then visit the London Winter Run website for all the essential information.

A few entries are still available for the real thing but you really will have to get your skates on!
