A Bridge Too Far
Run 10K and cross a bridge (any bridge) to get your hands on a cool medal and enter the prize draw...
If you're looking for a challenge but fancy doing it in your own time rather than toeing the start line with hundreds (or thousands) of others, a virtual running event is a good option. Step forward the Forth Road Bridge Virtual 10K which is inviting participants to cover the distance during the period 1 September - 31 October.
Speaking about the decision to hold the virtual event, a spokesperson from Pitreavie AAC said: "Following the huge success of our Forth Road Bridge 10K which took place on 18 August, we now have two more aims. One of these is to reduce waste by reusing leftover medals (they're far too cool to be stuck away in a cupboard!).
"The other is to support two local charities (Disability Sport Fife and Forth Valley Disability Sport) whose aims are to support and promote disability sport in the local area."
For those who don't know, a virtual 10K is a 10K event which you complete in your own time. For this particular event organisers would like you to incorporate the Forth Road Bridge into your route (or if you live a bit further afield, any bridge in your run).
This would be a great event to walk/jog/run/wheel with others; maybe as a social or handicap run with your club or just a social outing with friends. If 10K in one go is a challenge, why not break it down into smaller chunks and do it over the timeframe?
Once you have entered the event your medal will be posted out and you are in charge of following the 'race rules'. You must run between 1 September and 31 October and you can use any route, however it must cross the Forth Road Bridge (or another bridge) at least once. You can run longer than 10K, just clip a 10K part of the route to get your 10K time and once you've completed your challenge open your envelope with your medal, pop it on and boast about it on social media before you complete the online form to submit your result.
On 1 November the results from all runners will be published and organisers will randomly select a winner who will receive a prize.
