Desperately Seeking A Marathon PB?

Could this be the flattest marathon course in the UK?

When it comes to marathon PBs there is nothing like the lure of a 26.2 miler with a pancake flat course. Taking place on 22 May, the Solway Coast Marathon boasts a total climb of only 79m, which certainly makes it one of the flattest courses in the UK.

And in this instance, flat doesn't come at the expense of scenery, the Solway Coast is an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty - designated such in December 1964 in recognition of the quality of its landscape and its significant historic and scientific interest. The coast stretches from Rockcliffe in the north to Maryport in the south, covering about 115 square kilometers of the Solway Plain.

But back to the importanct part - the route! The roads are quiet Cumbrian country roads and very flat with an initial 5 mile loop through Kirkbride, Newton Arlosh heading back past the start where family and friends will be able to cheer you on and give the encouragement for 21 miles to come.

The course then heads back out through Kirkbride and on to the Solway Coast taking in Glasson, Port Carlisle, Bowness on Solway, Cardurnock, Anthorn, Longcroft then back to Newton Arlosh and on to the finish at The White Heather Hotel.

Part of the Sport In Action Festival of Running, there is a Half Marathon and 10K option both taking place on the same day and both offering similarly flat courses.
