Cairn Table Hill Race

Run Up This Fine Hill

This Ayrshire hill race offers a great summer challenge...

Organisers of this summer hill race claim the event takes place on 'one of Ayrshire's finest hills' so surely you need no more persuasion than that if hills are your thing?

The Cairn Table Hill Race is part of the Bog & Burn series, which this year consists of 13 Wednesday night hill races across Central Scotland during the spring/summer months. The series started back in April with events running throughout May, June and into July and August. The Cairn Table event is scheduled for the tail end of the series on 17 July.

Cairn Table is located in Muirkirk, East Ayrshire and registration takes place at the Walkers Car Park prior to the start of the race. The event itself is a challenging 7.2K race up Cairn Hill with 360m of climbing on an out-and-back course.

If you’re already a fan of hill runs, fancy a different type of running challenge or just want to mix up your training to improve your strength then give it a go! The race is chip timed and has a time trial format with runners allowed to start from 6.30pm until 8.30pm.

While the race is open to all-comers, race organisers are keen to stress that: "This is a hill race, with all that entails. It is not a trail or cross country race. The route is not marked and there is no support out on the course.

"You should be happy running in the hills and over rough and unmarked terrain and be prepared to be self reliant."
