Record Time In Bury!
There was a new course record at the weekend's Bury BID 10K while participants of all ages and abilities triumphed in their own way...
Thousands of participants, spectators and volunteers took to the streets of Bury at the weekend (7 August) for the return of the Bury BID 10K and Mini and Junior editions. Kicking off outside The Rock Shopping Centre, runners headed out of town for the scenic Kirklees Trail, exploring the nature reserve, before looping back into the town centre to cross the finish line and receive their well-earned medals.
In the men’s race, Benjamin Kirkman triumphed with a new course record time of 32:05! Luke Edwards took second place in 32:11, followed by Callum Gaunt with 35:27 on the clock. Charlotte Gregory was first to the finish line in the women’s race with an impressive time of 41:26, she was followed by Emma Stansfield and Elizabeth Cooke clocking times of 42:25 and 43:54 respectively.
But the real winners were the myriad local and national charities, who will benefit from the efforts of the many people who took part raising thousands of pounds in the process and making a vital difference. Participants were encouraged to fundraise for one of the event’s official partner charities: Backup North West, the Jane Tomlinson Appeal, Jigsaw and Trust House.
The Bury Mini and Junior runs followed later in the day, with children from the ages of 3 to 15 taking part in an uplifting display of energy, determination and enjoyment, highlighting the importance of encouraging participants of all ages to enjoy running.
Tristan Batley-Kyle of Run For All said: “A huge well done to all participants who joined us for the Bury BID 10K and Mini and Junior runs. The enthusiasm and support from participants, volunteers and spectators ensured today was a great success enjoyed by all, and saw participants raise thousands for local charities.”
