Brighton Speedy!
Nearly 3,000 tackle the breezy seafront in the Brighton 10K...
The Brighton 10K is billed as 'one of the oldest and most prestigious races in the south east' on the official Brighton and Hove AC event website. Established in 1984, the 41st Brighton 10K drew nearly 3,000 runners to the Sussex seafront for another classic encounter on Sunday, 16 November 2025.
The programme also featured a Junior Mile won by talented local Brighton & Hove AC Cory Walker (under-15, 4:58) and Ada Greenaway (under-13, 5:32). The top 70 young athletes beat 7:00 on the flat promenade course, and there were 190 finishers in 17:17.
With the coast clear, it was time for the huge senior field to set off in the Brighton 10K, with England Masters international vests at stake for some of the leading master athletes, as this was a qualifying race for the Masters International 10K that will be held within the Bideford 10K on 10 May 2026.
The spectacular race route never strays far from Brighton's promenade and takes you past many of the best-known landmarks of Brighton and Hove. The start is on Hove Promenade, 500m west of the 162-metre-tall i360. Runners pass Hove Lawns on the promenade, the Palace Pier, the Sea Life Centre (the oldest Aquarium in the World), the Victorian Arches of Madeira Drive, and Yellow Beach Sports before the final stretch to finish on Hove Promenade.
A fast and furious pace saw the winner duck under 30 minutes by a second! Army runner Dean Williamson, representing Colchester Harriers, trimmed two seconds from his personal best to cross the line in 29:59. He was kept on his toes by under-20 junior Toby Jones (City of Southend AC, 30:01 PB), who took 32 seconds off his previous fastest at Chelmsford in June.
Third overall and first among the masters was M35 James Turner (Brighton & Hove AC, 30:19 PB), and there were eye-catching higher age group wins for M40 Ally Jones (City of Portsmouth AC, 31:24 PB) and M50 Tom Harvey (Lingfield RC, 33:34 PB). The 28:59 men's course record set by Rob Denmark in 1993 was secure for another year.
The women's race was even more classy than the men's, as Louise Damen's 2010 record of 33:14 was finally beaten. The proud owner of the Brighton 10K women's course record is now Kate Estlea-Morris (Aldershot Farnham & District AC), who took a mere 33:03 PB to navigate the out-and-back route. The runners-up were Hollie Parker (Brighton Phoenix, 34:05) – making her debut at 10K – and Hannah McGowan-Jones (Vegan Runners, 34:38 PB).
W35 Catherine Kandie (Kent AC, 35:01 PB) led the masters, followed by GB international ultra runner W45 Sarah Webster (Lewes AC, 36:13 PB) and another W45 Helen Gaunt (Tonbridge AC, 36:18).
