Devilishly Difficult Half
The Devil's Foot Half Marathon offers a slice of heaven, and hell...
If you want to run a race that's devilishly difficult but offers views from heaven, the Devil's Foot Half Marathon can cater to both your wishes. Taking place on 16 October, this trail race starts in Lauder and follows the scenic trails of the Southern Upland Way back to Melrose.
After crossing the River Tweed, runners will head past the Devils Foot Mark - a mark in the rock beside the river at Melrose. Those who take part will then head for a devilishly difficult finish over the Eildon Hills, before heading back to finish at Melrose Rugby Club.
Speaking about the event a spokesperson from race organiser, Trail Outlaws, said: "We are passionate about staging fun, inclusive and challenging trail runs. When we discovered Melrose as part of our Saint Cuthbert's Way Ultra, we have been wanting to put on a great race in this fabulous town.
"So we are delighted to be able to offer this challenging half marathon that takes you passed the Devil's Foot Mark, then loops over one of the Eildon Hills. Whether you are new to the trails or a regular, come and try one of these two new events for a unique challenge. We promise you won't regret it."
Entry includes a free coach journey to the start of the race, and the course is fully marked and there will be several checkpoints with water, coke and snacks available. The first checkpoint is 3.25 miles and the second checkpoint is at 8.25 miles.
