Birchwood 10K close to selling out

This year's Birchwood 10K is nearing a sell-out with organisers announcing there are a limited number of entries available. Registration for the event on for Sunday 19 August is due to close on Saturday (11 August), and, with a sell-out recorded in the previous two years, all entries are expected to be snapped up.

Hosted by North East club Spectrum Striders, the long-established event has been held every year since 1984 and consistently ranked as one of the top races in the UK and is ideal for northern runners chasing a PB towards the end of their summer training.

The race will see runners take on a circular route from Birchwood railway station, mainly on roads, through Birchwood and Croft, finishing in Birchwood Boulevard.

Last year saw Stockport Harrier Jack Martin grab first place in 31:38, followed by Gareth Williams (32:56) and Colin Snook (33:12). Kirsty Longley was top in the female competition in 36:47 ahead of Catherine Howard (37:17) and Danielle Jepson (39:18).

Registration is priced at £18 or £16 for UK affiliated runners. Further information is available here.
