Birchwood 10K's Green Mission

Make summer plans for a 10K with real green credentials...

The ever popular Birchwood 10K race will return for its 39th edition on 18 August and will continue in its mission to be the greenest event in the North West. So far, it's been doing a pretty good job!

A spokesperson from the race said: "We are continuing our mission to make our 10K the greenest race in the North West. We make an annual donation to The Mersey Forest to support their tree-planting campaign. So, make racing plans for this summer event and do your bit for the planet."

Tracing back to 1984, the Birchwood 10K has ranked consistently high on the list of the UK’s top road races and is ideal for northern runners chasing a PB towards the end of their summer training. The race will see runners take on a circular route from Birchwood railway station, mainly on roads, through Birchwood and Croft, finishing in Birchwood Boulevard.

The race boasts a fast course on fully or partly closed roads, runners are supported all the way by enthusiastic club volunteers. The course starts at the Birchwood Shopping Centre, Warrington and takes in local roads and paths before heading towards the rural village of Croft. A testing trio of rises over motorway bridges then brings runners back to the cheering crowds on the fast finishing straight.

The event's spokesperson continues: "Our 10K road race is suitable for all abilities. All of us at Spectrum Striders are really proud of our great event and enjoy providing a fantastic race experience for everyone.

"We also want to highlight the 'return of the towel'. Yes, all finishers of the 2024 race will be able to collect a souvenir race towel. It's been a few years since we gave these unique towels to finishers of the 10K and we hope you love it!"
