New Route Adds Fresh Twist To Popular Fen Gallop
Flat racing and family fun...
The Fen Gallop returns to Willingham on 5 July 2026 with a brand new route and another day of community focused running across the Cambridgeshire fens.
Organised entirely by volunteers, the popular event offers a choice of a 10K or 4 mile race along flat country roads, footpaths and bridleways around Willingham and the surrounding countryside. Both routes start and finish at Willingham Recreation Ground, with organisers unveiling a revised course for 2026 to give returning runners something new to enjoy.
The flat profile makes the event appealing to a wide range of runners. Those chasing a fast summer 10K will find plenty of uninterrupted running, while the shorter 4 mile option provides an accessible challenge for newer runners, families and anyone looking for a shorter outing.
What helps set the Fen Gallop apart is its strong community atmosphere. Once the main races are complete, the focus shifts towards family activities, including a children's one mile race and entertainment provided by local village groups. Organisers also encourage runners and spectators to stay on after finishing, with food, refreshments and activities helping create a festival feel around the recreation ground.
The event continues to raise money for local causes, with all proceeds going directly to charity. The 2026 beneficiaries include the Willingham School Association, the Willingham Warden Scheme in partnership with Age UK, and CamRare.
With picturesque fenland scenery, flat multi terrain routes and a welcoming community atmosphere, the Fen Gallop remains one of the most distinctive summer races in Cambridgeshire. Entries are open now for both distances ahead of the July event.
Entries are still available via evententry here.
