Mersey Tunnel 10K Runners

Merseyside's Bucket List Race

Have you run the Tunnel 10K yet?

If there's a bucket list race on Merseyside, then chances are for most people it is the Mersey Tunnel 10K. Reintroduced to the calendar back in 2006, the normally springtime race returned in September last year after a COVID break in 2020.

The race will be an autumn affair again this year with the date set for 11 September, which means you've got the summer months to get yourself race-ready!

Part of the undoubted attraction of this unique 10K is the fact it presents something different to almost all of the other events on the race calendar: part of the course takes runners through the Kingsway Wallasey Tunnel.

Known to be one for the spectators, too, the Mersey Tunnel 10K sees competitors depart from Blackstock Street and, after emerging from the tunnel, snakes along the picturesque Wirral seafront from Seacombe. To complete what is, arguably, one of the best 10K routes in the UK, runners are treated to a grandstand finish at Ian Fraser Walk in New Brighton.

A new female course record was set by Kirsty Longley from Liverpool Pembroke Sefton Harriers back in 2019, clocking 36:19. The male record still stands at 30 minutes 52 seconds, recorded by Dejene Gezimu from Liverpool Harriers AC in 2016.
